how to improve public speaking skills?

You may think effective speakers are born that way. You'd be wrong! Public speaking is a skill that can be learned.
Public speaking skills are valuable both in your personal life and in your career. Even if you don't regularly engage in public speaking, developing skills in this area will increase your confidence and reduce anxiety about situations in which you may be called upon to speak in public.
Public speaking can be terrifying, but when you care about your career progression you need to find a way to get your voice out.
Public speaking is how you can share your ideas with a large number of people, stand out from the corporate crowd, and get visibility in your field.
Unfortunately, if you’re public speaking skills are not up to par, it’s likely that no one will be focused enough on your presentation to really receive your message.
If you follow the tips to improve your public speaking skills you can also become an effective speaker.
So, are you ready to know! how to improve your public speaking skills?
What are the ways to improve your public speaking skills?
  1. Preparation Is key-:  Before giving the speech, spend time putting your speech together so that it flows logically and is made more vibrant with stories, examples, and props, such as images. For inspiration, try watching other great, yet relatable, speakers on video. You may even want to read the transcripts to see how they crafted their speeches. When it’s all done, practice saying your speech out loud until you can give it over fluidly and comfortably.
  2. Knowing Your Audience-: the most important skills for public speaking comes into play before you even step on stage. While how you speak and stand are crucial to being a successful public speaker, as we’ll find out, before anything else you need to know who you’re speaking to and how to tailor your speech to them.
Indeed, many of the parts of public speaking discussed here will need to be modified in different situations, and one size doesn’t fit all this goes for both the content of a speech and the way you actually deliver it. Knowing your audience and planning accordingly helps you to give a better speech and also to have more confidence.
  3. Don’t Be Afraid To Fail-: You are probably going to mess up. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said the wrong thing, misspelled something on a report, or in one case, set incorrect timings. Don’t expect perfection. Know that those around you don’t expect perfection either. If we are on a client call and someone doesn’t know the answer to a question, that’s OK. Perhaps someone else can help you. The fear of public speaking is often tied to the fear of failure. As Berkun noted, the key is to keep going and don’t let that fear of failure get in the way of being good.
  4. Tone And Timing-: It goes without saying that how quickly you speak and what tone of voice you use are important for public speaking, but we don’t normally control these things consciously in our everyday lives. This means that thinking about them as we speak isn’t always easy. When it comes to how quickly you speak, the advice often boils down to one thing speak more slowly, When people get nervous, they tend to talk more quickly and gabble their words without even thinking about it. Needless to say, public speaking can be a nerve-wracking situation, and so to counter that we need to consciously control the speed of our speech. As you speak, make sure that you also vary the tone of your voice as well so that the meaning of each sentence comes across clearly and strongly. Remember that speaking to a crowd is not like speaking to an individual, and you may need to exaggerate a little depending on the size of the room to make sure that what you’re saying comes across.
  5. Body Language-: Remember that people aren’t just listening to you when you speak in public, they’re looking at you too. That might sound scary, but actually using your body is one of the best ways to engage your audience and deliver a great speech. The most important thing to remember is that you’re an individual communicating with a large number of people. This means that you’ll have to open up your body language to engage with everyone in the room and match their energy. Here are some tips: Stand with a relaxed, upright posture. Avoid swaying or rocking back and forth. Gesture with your arms and hands to make a point or describe details of your story. Move to different areas of the stage occasionally without turning your back on the audience. Match your facial expression and overall energy to the tone of what you’re saying. For most professional presentations, you want to exude a pleasant, energetic disposition. Make eye contact with the audience. Look at various audience members throughout your speech. Ask questions to encourage input from your audience. Call on audience members to hear their answers or ask for a show of hands. Listen thoughtfully or jot down notes to incorporate their responses into your presentation.
  6. Tell A Story-: People love a good story. So, if you want to be a more effective speaker, tell a story. Storytelling is a great way to make your material more engaging and to relate to your audience. Make sure your story is relatable and relevant.
Your company story: The story of how your company came to be. This can be especially effective if it's customer-oriented.
A product development story: The story of how you came to offer a new product or service. here are some examples of stories: customer story: The story of how your product or services met a need for a specific customer or solved a problem. Satisfied customers are often happy to share this. there are many other types of stories you could tell depending on the type of speaking you are doing.
  7. Passion-: Last but not least In order to really communicate with people through speech, you need to have a passion for your subject. Without passion, your speech is meaningless. You need to exude a level of sincerity in your emotion when communicating with your audience if you want them to be moved by your presentation. There’s no need to attempt to ‘practice’ sincerity by practicing your speech with a raised voice and waving arms. Simply focus on how you feel about your top and those that you are communicating with.
It can be hard to be passionate about your topics when you present at work but aren’t really engaged in the activity. Sometimes, to show passion about a topic that doesn’t completely excite you, you need to dig deep into the topic and find things that interest you.
Conclusion-:
The best way to give an inspiring presentation is by having a message that you believe in that the audience can connect to.  The connection between you and the audience is what allows them to truly listen to your message and be inspired. If you can master these skills, you’ll be well on the way to becoming a dynamic and engaging public speaker.
It takes a lot of practice and experience to become a powerful public speaker.
