Public speaking is the process of communicating information to an audience. It is usually done before a large audience, like in school, the workplace and even in our personal lives. The benefits of knowing how to communicate to an audience include sharpening critical thinking and verbal/non-verbal communication skills.

Public speaking is the way of sharing information with an audience. It includes speaking to audiences of any size, from a bunch of seminar participants to a large number of groups of people.

As public speaking has become a serious career option, many people are enrolling for classes where they are taught skills and techniques to speak well and speak effectively before a gathering. However, to be a good speaker, you should know what are the 4 types of public speaking, and the peculiarities of each one of them.

Here are the four general types of speakers, so that you can recognize, for yourself, what kind of speaker you are.

1. Ceremonial Speaking-: Ceremonial speaking typically involves a toast and is personal with an intimate emotional connection to people hearing it. The goal of ceremonial speaking is to trigger an emotional response from an audience. It’s all about fostering an emotional connection with the people who are taking the time to listen to you. If you’re going for this approach, then talk about the things that will bring you and your audience closer together, in a way that unites everybody in the room. These speeches mark special occasions.
   
2. Informative Speaking-: With informative speaking, the speaker is trying simply to explain a concept to the audience members. Informative speakers tend to focus on the specific subject matter, such as people, events, places, stories and so on. College lecture courses include informative speeches such as industry conferences and public officials sharing important information. If you’re opting for an informative approach, then be sure to do two important things. First, research your topic. You need to know the ins and outs of your content by heart. Second, and more importantly, you have to keep your speech short and simple. In this type of speaking, information is important. The speaker isn’t attempting to get others to concur with him or to tell them the best way to accomplish something for themselves.
   
3. Demonstrative Speaking-: Demonstrative Speaking is a little different because it focuses more on the actions omitted during a speech or presentation rather than the words being spoken. Science demonstrations and role-playing are kinds of demonstrative speaking. This kind of public speaking requires having the option to speak clearly and concisely to describe actions and to perform those activities while speaking. The idea is to engage the audience in both verbal and non-verbal communicational methods. By doing so, the speaker has a better chance to get the message across to the audience. If you’re thinking about going with this technique, then it’s important to focus on both the verbal and non-verbal aspects of communication.  Be sure you don’t miss a beat. Both need to go together to make your demonstration benefit your public speaking efforts.
   
4. Persuasive Speaking-: Persuasive speaking is the act of convincing members of your audience to do something, based on them agreeing with your viewpoint. In this technique, the spectrum of persuasion is broad You can get your audience members to agree to buy a product, take on a new lifestyle, or even conform to a particular political opinion. This kind of Public speaking requires practicing voice inflections and nuances of language that will convince the audience members from a specific perspective. The persuasive speaker utilizes emotional appeals and strong language in speeches.

Public speaking is a skill that is best mastered through continuous practice. A talkative person may not be able to give the best speech. To give a great speech, one must first understand the type of speech one is expected to give and should prepare along those lines.
